I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including: anxiety; body image issues; burnout and job dissatisfaction; self-esteem; chronic health and disability issues; eating disorders; depression; grief and loss; sexuality and gender identity; post-immigration experiences; self-harm; unwanted substance use; trauma; infertility; relationship difficulties; suicidal thoughts and behaviours; sex and intimacy issues; and the general stress that accompanies everyday living.
Like most therapists, I have several areas of practice in which I feel distinctly equipped to work. These include recovery from interpersonal trauma and abuse, including childhood sexual abuse, and work with clients who experience symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder, complex posttraumatic stress disorder and/or borderline personality disorder (BPD), and dissociative disorders (including dissociative identity disorder).
I bring extensive experience to my work with LGBTTIQQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersex, queer or questioning) people and exploring issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. My practice also includes work with clients who engage in consensual bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadomasochism (BDSM) practices. As a former sexual health educator and sexual assault counsellor, I have experience in supporting people living with HIV/AIDS; coping with diagnoses of sexually transmitted infections (STIs); nurturing diverse relationship models (including open relationships, polyamory, and non-monogamy); and healing from sexual trauma and interpersonal violence.
I completed my studies in the Counselling Psychology Master of Education program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. I have additional training in crisis intervention, mindfulness practice, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, sex therapy, the neurobiology and treatment of trauma, and advanced clinical interventions for the treatment of dissociative disorders. I am a Level II Sensorimotor Psychotherapy graduate, and an Intermediate student of Somatic Experiencing. I have received introductory training in clinical hypnosis, and am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also have an extensive background in dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and have worked as an individual therapist and group skills trainer in a DBT program at a prominent downtown Toronto practice.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am a member in good standing of the Canadian Professional Association for Transgender Health (CPATH), the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), and the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT). I value professional development and receive ongoing peer consultation as well as clinical supervision from registered psychologists and somatic practitioners.
